Danny Adler in early 1979 was at the crossroads in his career development. Roogalator had broken up in late 1978 and Danny was busy doing research and development and creating new material for what would be his third album (The Danny Adler Band Gusha-Gusha Music DALP 3) and beyond. Danny also took advantage of every opportunity to jam with other musicians on the exciting London club scene. Enter Mike Carr, Godfather of the Funky Hammond B3 organ style in Europe, and supreme road warrior. After a late night jam session, Mike took a shine to Danny’s bluesy vocal delivery and general funky approach to Jazz. Together, Mike and Danny rehearsed and workshopped a set list that would relieve Mike of frontman duties and allow Danny and his guitar to stretch out over cool Jazz chord changes.
Accordingly in January 1979, Danny, Mike Carr and drummer Peter Schmidt set sail in Mike’s decrepit 1967 blue Commer van for an epic, chaotic, exciting but grueling tour playing nightly to wildly enthusiastic audiences up and down the snow packed German Autobahn highway system. These live recordings are the results of this tour. We salute Mike Carr in his 80th year. Long may he groove!
